MacKenzie Scott is well known for her philanthropic efforts, often donating millions of dollars from her $36 billion net worth. The philanthropist announced on March 19th a new round of donations, including $46 million towards Bay Area nonprofits.
The donations are for either $1 or $2 million per organization, with over 2 dozen nonprofits receiving 7-figure sums in the Bay Area. The nonprofits were selected from an open call that saw 6,000 applicants, and 361 organizations were chosen to receive the donations.
Some of the Bay Area non-profits that are receiving donations include La Cocina, which supports low-income culinary entrepreneurs, primarily women of color and immigrant communities, in growing their businesses. 826 Valencia is receiving $1 million to continue their mission of supporting under-resourced students on their educational journey. Planting Justice, which works to empower young people affected by incarceration, will also receive $1 million.
We definitely recommend you check out the full list of organizations receiving donations. They do amazing work serving our communities, and if you want to give back, it’s a great place to learn a little about what organizations are in your area.
