If you’ve ever wanted to romanticize your life with a scenic train ride, now’s the time. Amtrak is having a flash winter sale with up to 40% off tickets. The sale applies all across the country, including in California.
The sale only applies to trips in a select few winter months starting in December, and you have until November 14th to book your trip. You can get up to 40% off regular ticket prices on Mondays through Thursdays and Saturdays between December 2 to March 15, 2025 with the flash promotion. There are a few select blackout dates where the sale prices will not be available, so make sure you check the calendar before you book your ticket.
Some example tickets in California include a $46 one way between LA and Sacramento, or $76 one way between LA and Seattle. The sale applies to both coach and business class seats. Business class tickets include reserved seating and free WiFi along with tray tables. The discount applies to most Amtrak trains, although some—like the Pacific Surfliner— are excluded from the sale.
“Discounts offered during the National Winter Travel Flash Sale provide guests the opportunity to take convenient, comfortable and more sustainable trips between the biggest cities in the country — New York City, Washington, DC, Philadelphia and Boston — aboard the Acela or experience some of the country’s most spectacular landscapes on other trains to Chicago, Los Angeles or Dallas,” said Amtrak Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer Eliot Hamlisch in a press release.
While taking the train might not be the first mode of travel that comes to mind for many Californians, it’s an easy, scenic way to travel throughout the state. Amtrak also offers a California Rail Pass that includes 7 days of travel in California for less than $200 per person.
