This fall, the de Young Museum opened an expansive exhibition exploring manga as an art form. The exhibition was highly anticipated and is the first major manga exhibition in the United States. Now, just a few months after it opened, almost 100,000 people have seen the exhibition, and it closes on January 25. 2026.
The Art of Manga features over 600 drawings, combining works across multiple publishers— something that isn’t often done for manga exhibitions. The exhibition guides viewers through the creation process of manga while showcasing the drawings. Viewers can expect to see some of the genre’s most iconic works, including One Piece.

The de Young has also created a reading room, stocked with Manga books, so viewers can experience the stories and artwork as intended. The exhibition only has a little over a month left, and the de Young has created extended hours for the exhibition on select days to accommodate viewers who want to visit before it closes. The museum will be open until 8:30 pm on January 16–17 and January 23–24.

Finally, to celebrate the exhibition, the de Young is hosting an after-hours party called Late Night Editions. The Fine Arts Museums have recently debuted late-night events, opening the museum doors after hours for guests and featuring cocktails and music. The after-hours event will include food trucks from Off the Grid and DJs in the museum’s galleries. Night Editions: Art of Manga is on January 22 from 6 to 10 pm, and is a 21+ event.
