The Bay Area has been reeling from the harsh weather conditions this week as a bomb cyclone thrashes the West Coast. After multiple days of heavy rainfall in the North Bay from a powerful atmospheric river, we can expect even more rain dousing the rest of the Bay Area today, Friday, Nov. 22nd. The National Weather Service Bay Area is predicting some “more appreciable rain” in San Francisco and the Central Coast. “Simply put, Friday will be a wet one,” they said on X.
The Excessive Rainfall Outlook shows San Franciso in the “slight risk” zone, while much of the North Bay is classified as “moderate risk.” Forecasters have anticipated up to a month’s worth of rain just this week, with 10 to 15 inches of rainfall expected in parts of the North Bay.
NWS has also issued a Flood Advisory for most of the North Bay until early Saturday morning, as well as a Flood Warning today for rivers in the North Bay until further notice. The Russian River is expected to reach a minor flood stage this evening.
The following graphic shows how the atmospheric river is expected to progress across the Bay Area today, with rain moving southward across the East Bay, Peninsula, and South Bay.
Drivers are warned not to drive on flooded roads, and to be extra careful at night when flooding is harder to see. If you’re commuting today make sure you take the utmost precautions, and of course, never drive around a barricade. PG&E outages have also been reported throughout the region, which you can keep an eye on with their Outage Map.
