Last week, crowds lined up outside the Marina’s newest cocktail bar, with people eager to try the latest spot in the popular neighborhood known for its bar scene. The new place, called Bar Darling, is spacious, with plenty of seating in the main bar area and a pool table situated towards the back. Then, you can venture outside, where a large enclosed patio complete with heat lamps can seat more guests. Bar Darling is the newest venture of the owners behind popular bars in San Francisco, including April Jean in North Beach, Harper & Rye, Peacekeeper, and more.
The menu of craft cocktails includes creative drinks like the Asher, made with an olive oil wash, gin, and rosemary, as well as a delicious espresso martini made with salted espresso. The food menu features small bar bites, such as spinach tarts, wontons, and shrimp kushi, which are perfect for sharing and ideal for a late-night snack between drinks. Plus, you can try three slider options and a “Burger Dog” before sampling cake pops or donuts to satisfy your sweet tooth.
The space is inspired by the “lush greenery and rugged coastline of Northern California,” according to the owners. With a green-tiled fireplace and warm wood paneling, it’s easy to see the inspiration come to life in the cozy space. The name is a tribute to one of the founders’ grandparents, who called each other “darling.”
Bar Darling already seems to be a hit among the frequent bar goers in the Marina, and its opening comes just after the news that longtime favorite Tipsy Pig is set to close just a few doors down.
Bar Darling is walk-in only, and there may be a line on weekend nights. The bar is open Tuesday through Saturday from 2 pm to 2 am, and is located at 2263 Chestnut Street.
