You might have seen some viral videos of Seattle’s popular hot tub boats featuring small groups enjoying a scenic day on the water. Well now the Bay Area is in on the fun with a new company that’s renting hot tub boats out for small cruises on the bay.
Earlier this month, Bay Area Hot Tub Boat officially set sail, offering small electric boats with hot tubs to rent for short excursions on the bay. Guests can cruise what is essentially a combination of a small boat and hot tub while enjoying being on the water and taking in the scenery.
The company is located in Alameda, with the boats launching from the Marina Village Yacht Harbor. The boats are electric and fit up to six people, and no boating license is required to operate the small vessel. The excursion is located in the Oakland and Alameda estuary, due to it’s typically calm waters that make it ideal for the small boat.
The boats come with a bluetooth speaker and guests are encouraged to bring their own food and drink on the boat (although no glass or hard alcohol is permitted). The experience is 90 minutes for two to six people, with the cost starting at $380. Guests drive the boat themselves, and are given a tutorial before setting out on the water. In true Bay Area style, the boats are electric in an effort to be eco-friendly.
Bay Area Hot Tub Boats was started by Chris Ferren-Cirino and Matthew See who have a long history in creating unique outdoor experiences. The duo started a party bike rental in Sacramento before creating the Brew Boat; a pedal-powered boat that allows beer and cider on board.
