San Francisco’s Bhangra & Beats Night Market is back on just two dates this year, and the first is this Friday, July 24th! The free, all-ages event comes to a new location: Yerba Buena Gardens, Jessie Square, and Yerba Buena Lane in Downtown.
The next event will be a Diwali celebration scheduled for November 13th, so if you can’t make it this Friday, you’ll have to wait another four months for another chance to join the festivities.
Here’s a closer look…
What to expect at Bhangra & Beats
All the excitement will center around two stages: The main stage at Yerba Buena Gardens and the Jessie Square Stage.
The main stage is headlined by the Non Stop Bhangra collective, featuring a rotating lineup of performers including Dholrhythms Dance Company, a San Francisco-based Bhangra troupe founded that will lead both dance lessons and full performances. Other main stage performers include drummers Ashi Dholi and Gulshan Singh and DJs Rav-E Sandhu, Nix Bhachu, and DJ GT.
On the Jessie Square Stage, Filmy AF by Lychy Jelly presents a set built around Bollywood music spanning the 1990s through today. Emcee Deuce Eclipse will host the evening, and Bay Area group DRUMMM Rhythmic Events will add interactive drumming experiences throughout the grounds.
Beyond the stages, attendees can take part in cultural experiences including mehndi (henna) tattoos, sari wrapping, hair braiding, dance classes, and interactive art installations. The Night Bazaar brings together more than 30 local retail vendors selling jewelry, apparel, and handcrafted goods, plus ten on-site food vendors with a range of Indian, Pakistani, and Nepali food and treats.
