California Leads Nation As Only State In CDC’s ‘Moderate’ Category For Covid Transmission

The ‘Moderate’ category includes states that have had less than 50 new cases per 100,000 people in the past week.

California continues to turn out excellent Covid vaccination statistics and transmission rates, as evidenced by its recent jump to the CDC’s second-lowest Covid transmission category! The CDC’s Covid Data Tracker evaluates communities according to a 4-tier system ranging from high to low transmission. The vast majority of states are still in the highest transmission red category.

California recently moved from the orange “substantial” category to the yellow “moderate” category as a result of achieving only 41.3 positive cases in 10,000 people. To be in the yellow tier, a state must have less than 50.

Almost every other US state is in the highest-transmission red tier for having over 100 new cases per 100,000 people in 7 days. Only Connecticut is currently in the orange tier with 66.6 cases per 100,000. Puerto Rico is one of the US territories also achieving low transmission rates, now in the yellow tier with 31.8 cases per 100,000.

To make it to the lowest-transmission blue tier, a state must achieve less than 10 new cases per 100,000 people in 7 days. In California, 70.8% of people are now fully vaccinated, which has significantly lowered the transmission rate.

At the moment, 56% of the total United States population is now fully vaccinated. The vaccines prove highly effective against severe illness, hospitalization, and death from Covid-19. You can learn more here.
