Carnaval is one of San Francisco’s most anticipated events every year. The celebration features a two-day festival and lively parade in the Mission District. The beloved festival celebrates Latin American, Caribbean, and African Diasporic cultures and communities in the Mission District, and has been happening for over 40 years. Carnaval is returning in 2026 on May 23 through May 24. Here’s what to know.
Carnaval Festival

The two-day festival spans 17 blocks in the Mission, between 24th and 16th streets, on Harrison Street and surrounding blocks. The festival features 50 local performers, over 400 vendors, and four main stages. You can expect dancing, live music, amazing local food, and family-friendly activities. The festival will be open between 11 am and 6 pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Carnaval Parade

The Grand Parade is one of the main events of the weekend, featuring a 60-contingent lineup with over 5,000 artists. The parade covers 20 blocks and will start at Harrison and 24th, making its way around the festival area before ending at 15th and Harrison. The parade starts at 10 am on Sunday, May 24, and will end around 2 pm. If you can’t make it to the parade in person, it will be televised on CBS.
Carnaval 2026 theme
Every year Carnaval has a unique theme, and this year’s is “La Copa del Pueblo”, the People’s Cup. The theme celebrates fútbol, emphasizing how it fosters community, connection, and joy.
