The vegan taco joint is curing lonely hearts with sweet-sounding cocktails
The OG of vegan Mexican food is celebrating Valentine’s Day in true Gracias Madre style: with a ‘cocktail playlist’ inspired by old-school Mexican love songs. The playlist will feature delectable scarlet concoctions all week long. While it’s a great excuse to get some of those Papas Al Horno with cashew cheese sauce, the cocktails also serve as an essential introduction to Mexican music. Here is a little taste of what’s to come.
1. “Querida” (Beloved)

This hot honey is inspired by the craftsman, Juan Gabriel. The song is considered his masterpiece with a chorus that pleads for his love to return. It makes sense that this is mirrored with a smoky, bittersweet mix of mezcal, Campari, blood orange, lime and maple syrup mix.
2. “Como La Flor” (Like The Flower)

In this song, the Mexican star compared love to a withering flower. It also happened to be the song that made her a household name in the US. This may be the perfect way to soothe a broken heart–with aromatic lavender and rosemary notes.
3. “Somos Dos” (We Are Two)

In “Somos”, Charvela Vargas describes love as two beings as one, through a series of poetic metaphors. Thus, fittingly, this creation is only complete with both parts combined. Pour the mezcal over the mango-hibiscus popsicle and watch it melt into one heavenly cocktail. Simply tantalizing.
