Here’s How To Get Your Covid-19 Vaccine Card In Digital Form

A good call if you’re worried about misplacing your physical card!

If you’re already vaccinated in California, congrats! You’ve significantly lowered your risk of developing a severe case of Covid, and a “new normal” is slightly more in reach. But as more and more places begin asking for proof of vaccination, carrying that physical card around might feel risky. Enter: the digital vaccine card.

Getting your digital vaccination card is quite straightforward. Assuming you were vaccinated in California, here’s what you need to do:

  1. Go to myvaccinerecord.cdph.ca.gov.
  2. Input your first name, last name, and date of birth.
  3. Input a cell phone number or email.
  4. Create a 4-digit PIN code.
  5. Check the box and submit.
  6. Open the link you receive via text or email.
  7. Input the PIN code.
  8. Screenshot and show when asked!

Your digital card contains a QR code, your name and date of birth, and your vaccination dates and types. You may screenshot or save it to show on your phone when entering bars, restaurants, concerts, or wherever else you’re asked for it. This digital card is created through the SMART Health Card framework, which prevents fraud by privatizing your information, according to VCI.org.

If you were vaccinated in California, this should work for you. That said, there are still comments online citing problems getting the digital card. Many people are still simply taking photos of their vaccination record card, which is accepted at most places. Stay tuned as we find out more!

If you still need to get vaccinated, you can make an appointment or find a walk-in site at myturn.ca.gov or vaccines.gov.
