San Francisco’s Ferry Building is launching Ferry Flicks, a new series of outdoor movie screenings at the Fort Point Beer Garden this May. Every Friday at sundown, guests can kick back at the patio tables and watch a classic film while enjoying delicious craft beer and tasty comfort food.
Each movie is a local classic filmed in San Francisco or featuring prominent parts of the SF cityscape. Here’s the movie lineup for the month of May:
- May 5: Vertigo (1958) – Alfred Hitchcock’s classic film about an ex-detective hired to prevent his friend’s wife from committing suicide. Local filming locations include the Palace of Fine Arts, Fort Point, and the Hotel Vertigo.
- May 12: Bullitt (1968) – An SF police detective is assigned to protect a Chicago mobster, but chaos ensures when two hitmen enter the scene. Bullitt features one of the most famous car chase scenes ever across Bernal Heights, Potrero Hill, Russian Hill, and Fort Mason.
- May 19: It Came from Beneath the Sea (1955) – In this horror/sci-fi classic, a giant radioactive octopus rises from the deep to terrorize San Francisco. An iconic shot shows the octopus attacking the Golden Gate Bridge.
- May 26: Sister Act (1992) – Whoopi Goldberg stars as Deloris, a lounge singer who goes into witness protection as a nun after witnessing a murder. The “convent” is actually St. Paul’s Catholic Church in San Francisco.
Each screening will begin at sundown (between 8-8:30pm), but you’ll want to show up beforehand to take advantage of the extended Fort Point Happy Hour from 5-8pm. You can enjoy $5 draft pours and settle in before the show begins, or otherwise do a quick lap of the Ferry Building to grab snacks to enjoy before the show (Humphry Slocombe and El Porteño are both open late). The screen itself will be located on the Ferry Building North Plaza.
General admission to Ferry Flicks costs $5 (plus fees) with popcorn included, or $12 (plus fees) with a fancy hot dog included. Make sure to grab tickets ahead of time because seating on the plaza is limited. Guests will also enjoy an opportunity to participate in Ferry Building trivia for a chance to win prizes.
Make sure you bundle up for this fun new outdoor movie series at the Ferry Building, and save the dates for your favorite screenings so you don’t miss out!
