About Filoli Estate and Gardens

Filoli was first built in 1917 as a private home for the Bourns, a wealthy family from San Francisco that decided to move away from the city. The estate was purchased in 1936 by the Roth family, which continued to create the now iconic garden. In 1975, the property was opened to the public. Today, the estate is a beautiful destination, with the manicured gardens and the historic home beautifully preserved. The estate always embraces the seasons, with special events like holiday lights, Halloween programming, and more. You can also join a guided tour of the property or a sunset hike through trails that are rarely open to the public.
