San Francisco just welcomed Fluff Nugget, the city’s first made-to-order popcorn store, on Thursday in Hayes Valley. The gorgeous new shop has taken over Smitten’s old storefront at 432 Octavia Street with next-level popcorn treats in sweet and savory flavors.
Fluff Nugget comes from the minds of Vino Volo founder Doug Tomlinson and Top Chef Season 6 contestant Chef Laurine Wickett. Wickett has curated a gourmet popcorn menu with exciting flavor combinations including Chorizo & Cheddar, Strawberry Meringue, Chocolate Aztec Chili, and limited-edition Pistachio Pesto for a special summer treat. Drink options include house-made berry lemonade and iced tea, plus additional canned and bottled classics.
Each indulgent popcorn snack is made to order, topped with ingredients like crushed Oreos and freeze-dried strawberries, and served in a cone with nifty compostable tongs. You can choose one of three sizes: Kiddo ($4.50), Regular ($7.40), and Large ($11.50).
You might recognize the small storefront as Smitten’s previous Hayes Valley location, but it’s had a major Fluff Nugget overhaul with a bright blue and yellow paintjob, a neon popcorn logo sign, and a custom popcorn mural from local artist Sabina Addis. The popcorn cones are perfect as grab-and-go snacks, but there is limited seating inside the store accommodating 12 guests. You can also enjoy your popcorn in Patricia’s Green, the adjacent grassy area with park benches and a play structure for kids.
“We are thrilled to finally introduce Fluff Nugget, our playful new Hayes Valley popcorn shop,” said founder Doug Tomlinson. “Fluff Nugget is all about joy, discovery, and irreverent fun through artisan popcorn, elevating a classic snack to a culinary experience. San Francisco is home, so we are excited to join the Hayes Valley neighborhood and unveil a delicious new destination for everyone to enjoy.”
