One of San Francisco’s most popular free events is returning this spring: Sundown Cinema. The free outdoor movie series regularly draws thousands to San Francisco parks for lively movie screenings, typically starting every summer.
The series is returning for 2026, starting on June 12 at Dolores Park. The screenings are all free and open to the public, however you can RSVP in advance to enter for the chance to have reserved seating in a special area. Otherwise, bring your favorite picnic blanket and movie snacks to the park and enjoy the screening.

Check out the Sundown Cinema 2026 schedule:
- June 12: The Princess Bride at Dolores Park
- July 24: Inside Out at Presidio Civil War Ground
- August 21: The Parent Trap at Marina Green
- September 25: School of Rock at the Ferry Building
- October 16: Beetlejuice at Crane Cove Park

The monthly movie screenings will take place at parks across the city, each showing classic, family-friendly movies. There are five screenings scheduled for 2026, starting in June and ending in October.
While the screenings are scheduled for the warmer months in San Francisco, we still recommend bringing some cozy layers to keep you warm during the movies.
The first screening will feature The Princess Bride, a classic fairytale adventure with romance and comedy. The family-friendly film is a classic and stars Cary Elwes and Robin Wright.
Sundown Cinema was previously organized by non-profit SF Parks Alliance, but is now organized by SF Standard and San Francisco Recreation and Parks, and is presented by Amazon. Stay tuned for more details about the moving screenings starting this June.
