The Valentine’s Exhibition With A Lot Of Heart

By Ashlyn Davis

This year the San Francisco General Hospital Foundation’s Hearts in SF exhibition is focused on mental health

Scrap the overpriced roses and stuffy dinner plans. This V-day is all about locking hands with your lover and strolling the streets in search of the newly-installed giant Hearts in SF sculptures popping up all around the Bay Area and smashing that Valentine’s selfie, with a snap that promotes more than just your fancy faces. Each one is individually painted or decorated by a locally commissioned artist to raise money for a range of social issues that the foundation supports. This year though, there will be a special focus on mental health.

While every heart is beautiful in its own right, amongst the favorites is the deep green pixelated portrait of Frida Kahlo, by Claudia Blanco. You can find it at the Wells Fargo Bank in Mission District.

We also love the sentiment behind “Silenced Voices of Everyday Sheroes” by Samanta Tello, which you can find around Kaiser Mission Bay.

Beyond the ten 400-ton love sculptures being installed around the city, there will also be 8 tabletop sculptures and 15 mini ones, which will all be auctioned off at Oracle park to raise money for mental health programs.
