One hike just a short drive from San Francisco is particularly unique because you can get a pancake breakfast at the end.
Pancake breakfast hikes

Perched atop Mount Tamalpais sits a historic inn that boasts dramatic views and cozy rooms. West Point Inn is off the grid, boasting a large porch and historic accommodations; it’s a wonderful weekend getaway. One of the best ways to see the inn is during one of their famed pancake breakfasts, where hikers eagerly line up for fresh pancakes at the inn while taking in the beautiful views.
The breakfasts only happen a few times a year, and 2026’s dates are June 21, August 9, and September 13. The breakfasts now require advance registration, as in the past some hikers were unable to get pancakes due to them selling out. Breakfasts are very popular, so we recommend registering early if you plan to attend.
The inn is only accessible via hiking or biking, with a range of trails available. You can take a longer, 2-hour route or a relatively easy 45-minute hike to the inn. Breakfast is served between 9 am and 1 pm, and you should expect a line.
About West Point Inn

West Point Inn was originally built in 1904 as a stop along the Mill Valley and Mt. Tamalpais Scenic Railway. The railway was once dubbed “The Crookedest Railroad in the World” for its 281 turns snaking its way up to the top of Mt. Tamalpais. West Point Inn was part of the railway until its closing in 1930 and is the only surviving building from the railroad.
The inn has been entirely run by volunteers since 1943, and the West Point Inn Association continues to operate it today. The association currently has over 600 members who keep the inn running.
Guests can choose from 7 rooms or 5 cabins on the property, including an accessible cabin with a ramp. While the inn is primarily accessed by hikers and bikers, guests who need accessibility accommodations can drive to the inn.
