The James Beard Awards are some of the most prestigious culinary awards in the country, honoring the best chefs, restaurants, bartenders, and cocktail services every year. Now, the long-awaited winners have been announced for 2026, and two SF establishments won awards.
Michael Tusk, Outstanding Chef at Quince

Quince is no stranger to prestigious awards. The restaurant has three Michelin Stars, and frequently tops lists for best restaurants in SF and beyond. Michael Tusk, the restaurant’s head chef, won the James Beard Award for Outstanding Chef. Tusk has been noted for its refined menu and high-quality ingredients, sourced from a local farm just 30 miles away. The farm provides the fresh, seasonal ingredients that Tusk and Quince are known for. Quince recently added a four-course lunch in The Bolinas Bar.
Kevin Diedrich, Outstanding Professional in Cocktail Service

Kevin Diedrich, the founder and bartender of popular cocktail bar Pacific Cocktail Haven, won the James Beard award for Outstanding Professional Cocktail Service. Diedrich is well known for his creative cocktails, and previously was named the “Best American Bartender.” Pacific Cocktail Haven is located near Union Square, and it’s not unusual to see a line out the door of eager San Franciscans waiting for a craft cocktail. The curated menu features classics like a Gimlet and Sidecar with unique takes or original creations. The bar does not take reservations, and we recommend checking in early evening to avoid lines.
