The Presidio’s Crissy Field Beach is a lovely place to visit under normal circumstances, but did you know that they host epic kite surfing competitions every other Thursday?
The St. Francis Yacht Club organizes these fun races on the waves, which can bring out dozens of competitors for an exciting spectacle. The series is set to run through September 1.
You can catch it every other Thursday evening around 5:00pm at Crissy Field Beach. Keep an eye out for competitors wearing bright orange jerseys.
The races are especially striking with the backdrop of the Golden Gate Bridge, which is within spitting distance of Crissy Field. When conditions are especially good, you can catch some awesome racing with high-level competitors who have made a name for themselves both locally and internationally, such as brother and sister team Johnny and Erika Heineken. They both hold World Championship titles and are regular fixtures in the Bay Area kite surfing community.
The kite surfing races aren’t the only exciting thing you can find at the Presidio. The City of San Francisco began from this point in 1776 when Spain established a military fort there. It’s full of hidden treasures such as museums, public art, grassy fields, and much more.
