While 2028 might seem far away, the Los Angeles Summer Olympics will be here sooner than you think. While LA continues to prepare for the iconic games, organizers have recently announced the competition schedule for the 2028 events.
LA28 competition schedule
The Olympics are a two-week affair, starting on July 14, 2028, and ending on July 30, 2028. The opening ceremonies will be held on July 14, with competitions beginning on July 15, and the closing ceremonies on July 30. Each event will follow its own schedule, and you can see the full itinerary below.—

Notably for the 2028 games, track and field sports (labelled as “Athletics” on schedules) will be primarily in the first week of competition, and swimming will be in the second, a change from past years. The first day of competition will also feature many women’s finals, including the 100m, triathlon, shot put, and more.
Some sports can expect events before the Opening Ceremonies on July 14, such as soccer, handball, hockey, basketball, and more. This is due to long tournament schedules, to ensure the finals can take place on the last competition day.
LA28 ticket registration
Ticket registration for LA28 opens in January 2026, so while the Olympics are years away, the time to get tickets is in just a few months. So far, organizers have not released an exact date for ticket sales, but you can sign up for the LA28 newsletter to stay up to date on any announcements. Then, you can register for the ticket draw when the registration period is open. You can learn more about LA28 tickets here.
Volunteer at the Olympics
While getting tickets for the Olympics may seem daunting, there is another way you can experience the games up close. The Olympics consistently use volunteers to help manage the events, and if you’re based in the Los Angeles area, you can register your interest now. The official application process for volunteers won’t start until 2026, but registering will help you stay informed on any news and important deadlines.
