Tennis has been at the forefront of sports fans’ minds lately, with the highly anticipated U.S. Open finishing earlier this month in New York. Now, another major tennis tournament is coming up — this time in San Francisco. The Laver Cup is a professional tennis tournament, featuring some of the top players. The tournament lasts three days, with 12 matches that will be played at the Chase Center on September 19 through September 21.
The tournament is divided into two teams, Team Europe and Team World, each with six players and a captain. While many types of tickets for the tournament are already sold out, you can still buy select single-session tickets. Only Friday and Sunday sessions are still available, so we recommend purchasing tickets before they sell out. Tickets start at $44 for upper-level tickets but can reach up to $642 without fees for lower-level seats. You can find more information on tickets here.
The European team features players Carlos Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev, Holger Rune, Casper Ruud, Jakub Mensik, and Flavio Cobolli. Meanwhile, Team World is comprised of Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe, Francisco Cerundolo, Alex Michelsen, João Fonseca, and Reilly Opelka.
The tournament has a mix of doubles and singles matches, starting with three singles and one double on Friday and Saturday. Sunday then features one last double match and up to three single matches if necessary. Each match adds to a team’s cumulative score, eventually deciding the winning team by the end of Sunday.
The tournament will be held at the Chase Center, causing the Golden State Valkyries to play their first playoff game in another stadium. The professional women’s basketball team made the playoffs in their debut season, and due to the scheduling conflict, the team will play their first round home game at the SAP Center in San Jose.
The Laver Cup is next weekend, September 19-21, and you can learn more here.
