An exciting lowrider parade is returning to San Francisco’s Mission District this weekend. The annual celebration will feature the iconic parade and “KING of the STREETS” Hopping Competition. The event is free and open to the public, and you can expect live performances and themed food throughout the day.
Check out the schedule for Saturday here:
- Lowrider Parade: 1:00 to 3:00 on Mission Street (between Cesar Chavez & 17th Street)
- “King of the Streets” Hopping Competition: 3:00 to 5:00 pm: 24th & Mission Street
- Lowrider Car Show: 2:00 to 8:00 pm: Mission Street (between Cesar Chavez & 18th Street)

The event draws hundreds of lowriders, with over 300 cars in the Lowrider Car Show. If you can’t attend the parade this year, it will be televised and streamed live on CBS. This marks the first time a Lowrider Parade has ever been televised, making it an extra exciting event for San Francisco this weekend. The parade’s Grand Marshal is cartoonist David Gonzales, who will lead the parade and car hopping competition.
“It’s an honor to be the Grand Marshal of the Lowrider Parade this year. My artwork has always reflected our cultura, and has served as a window for the broader community to see and understand the color and passion of who we are. Much of what I depict in my art draws upon my experience in the lowriding community. To be able to participate in this year’s parade is a full-circle moment for me. I’m a local homie, born and raised across the bridge in Richmond. I’m honored to be once again cruising “The City,” and proudly representing our beautiful Bay Area,” said Grand Marshal David Gonzales.

The event is presented by the San Francisco Lowrider Council, Mission Merchants Association, the Calle 24 Latino Cultural District, and the City of San Francisco. The Lowrider Council in San Francisco was founded by Roberto Y. Hernández in 1981 to combat racial profiling by local police. Since then, the Lowrider Council has been a major supporter of social justice. You can learn more about the history and cultural significance of the Lowrider Council here.
