The iconic Califonia diner Mel’s Drive-In is celebrating its 75th anniversary with some mouthwatering specials. On Wednesday, December 14th they’ll be offering a 75% discount on some of their classic menu items. That means that their famous “Melburger” and fries combo will be on sale for $4.24 for one day only.
According to an article by SFGATE, Mel’s was started by Mel Weiss and Harold Dobbs in 1947, and is still run by members of the Weiss family. Colton Weiss, Mel’s grandson and co-owner of Mel’s, explained that “our customers supported us over all these years, and we wanted to do something fun for them and give them a little price break on everything.”
The ’50s diner style is often imitated but Mel’s is the real deal. Director George Lucas set his film “American Graffiti” in 1963, with Mel’s Drive-In providing an important backdrop for the action. Mel’s represents an important piece of Americana and 75 years is an impressive milestone.
You can take advantage of this special deal (on Dec. 14th only) at all Mel’s Drive-Ins including these SF locations:
- 2165 Lombard Street (Marina District) – Carhop Service Available.
- 3355 Geary Boulevard (Richmond District) – Carhop Service Available.
