The de Young museum in Golden Gate Park is currently showcasing a fascinating exhibition focused on Monet’s Venetian paintings. The expansive exhibit also features some of Monet’s most iconic and coveted paintings, his “Water Lilies.” The exhibit will close in July, so there’s only one month left to see the iconic paintings.
Monet and Venice
The exhibition first debuted in New York before making its way to San Francisco in March. While the “Water Lilies” are some of the most well-known pieces, the exhibit boasts over 100 paintings, including works from other artists such as Renoir, Sargent, and Canaletto.
The focus of the exhibition Monet’s paintings of Venice. Monet traveled to Venice with his wife in 1908, towards the end of his life. Monet and Venice is the first exhibit dedicated to the painter’s Venetian works.

Campbell, Director and CEO of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. “Unlike bustling scenes painted by other artists, Monet’s Venice is hauntingly deserted, with its architecture, buildings, and canals dissolving in an atmospheric light. This exhibition offers an opportunity to experience Monet’s sublime vision of the famed Italian city, and for visitors to feel inspired by new perspectives on an artist they may think they know very well.”
Monet and Venice will close in one month, on July 26, 2026. The exhibit requires a timed entry ticket that also grants you access to the museum’s permanent galleries.
