Women’s sports have been taking off in San Francisco, with the Golden State Valkyries breaking audience records in the first season, and the city’s first women’s sports bar opening earlier this month in the Castro. Now, a major women’s sporting event is coming to the Bay Area later this year.
The National Women’s Soccer League announced that the Championship will be held in San Jose at PayPal Park. The Championship game is scheduled for November 22, 2025, and tickets will go on sale in August. PayPal Park is home to the Bay FC San Jose Earthquakes. “The history of women’s soccer runs deeply and strongly in the Bay Area,” said Bay FC Co-Founder and USWNT Legend Brandi Chastain. “From the roster of the national team players born and raised here to the first-ever professional domestic league champions coming from here, our community’s fabric is woven with the greatest the game has to offer. We are thrilled to host the next set of champions in the NWSL final in the place women’s soccer calls home.”
The NWSL comprises 14 clubs, with two new additions expected in 2026. The 2025 season is in full swing after starting in March. In 2024, the league saw a 285% increase in broadcast viewership, with a 47% increase in game attendance. The playoffs this year will start on November 7, and 8 clubs will qualify. The semifinals will take place from November 14 to 16 at various locations. Last year, the championship took place at CPKC Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, and Orlando Pride took the title.
