Food Halls have become increasingly popular, and now one is set to open in South San Francisco. Aptly called the Hangar, the new food hall features a modern design paired with multiple food and drink options. The space is intended not only as an eatery but also to provide a community gathering space for the surrounding area.
Located on the Vantage Campus, the market hall is intended to be conveniently close to the many Biotech and life sciences labs and workspaces in South San Francisco. The design is inspired by aviation (hence the name) and fittingly draws on themes of innovation.
The food hall includes four separate restaurants, a coffee shop, and a full-service bar and restaurant. You’ll find tacos at La Ventana, classic diner food at The Stack, and bowls of bibimbap at the Layover. For simple lunches, you can find sandwiches and salads at The Board. Camber, a swanky restaurant with a bar, features cocktails and a California-French menu.
Custom art installations by local artists decorate the space, including a piece by Windy Chien and a series of murals by Franceska Gamez and Shaun Burner.
“We’re excited to bring The Hangar to South San Francisco,” says Carrie Pearl, who oversees The Hangar. “Our design and concept pay tribute to the legacy of aviation, and our
custom art installations by local artists further enrich the space, creating a unique environment where culinary creativity, community, and history converge.”
The Hangar also includes rooms available for private events, including a dining room and conference hall. The Market Hall will be fully operational on September 30. You can find the new food hall at 460 Forbes Blvd in South San Francisco.
The Hangar isn’t the only food hall coming to the Bay Area. The Presidio Tunnel Tops recently announced that The Mess Hall, a food hall designed to serve guests of the new Tunnel Tops park, would open in 2025.
