If you’ve ever driven in the city, you know how confusing parking rules can be, especially if you’re parking in an unfamiliar neighborhood. While parking signs are posted throughout the city, it’s easy to miss them or misinterpret their meaning, leading to a dreaded parking ticket. Now, a San Francisco engineer has decided to use his skills to make following the city’s parking laws a little easier.
Abdullah Zahid, based in the Outer Richmond, decided to create an app to help people understand the city’s parking rules. The app, called Ticketless, uses your location to tell you the parking rules where you are, and it will even send you notifications when there is street cleaning or tow-away hours in the area. The app automatically detects parking rules based on your current location and notifies you when you should move your car for street cleaning.

Local engineer Abdullah Zahid was inspired to create the app due to his own confusion when it came to finding parking in the city. He told NBC Bay Area in a recent interview that the app will always be free for users and is intended to work as a resource to help San Franciscans follow the parking laws in the city. Zahid said he doesn’t aim to make money from the project, but rather created it to be a helpful tool after seeing the need in his own life. Right now, there are already 1,000 people on the waitlist, and Zahid hopes to release a beta version of the app soon. For now, Zahid is still testing the app; users on the waitlist can hope for a beta version in the next few weeks.
