Oakland’s iconic New Parkway Theater might fly under the radar for most San Franciscans, but it makes quite the statement. Their 2 large screening rooms are filled with big squashy couches, bean bags, and vintage chairs to watch everything from cult classics to the Super Bowl. Their café serves local beers and wines and house-made comfort food on a rotating menu. And this October, they have a great lineup of horror and Halloween-themed movies to enjoy in a one-of-a-kind, intimate theater environment.
Some scary movies coming up include Night of the Living Dead at 10pm on October 1, The Shining at 9pm on October 6, Scary Movie at 10:30pm on October 7, and The Lost Boys at 10pm on October 8. Be sure to see the full calendar as events are subject to change and there will be many more awesome films coming up!
The current schedule for Halloween on October 31 has 4 excellent horror movies lined up, with additional screenings that day TBD. At the moment we can expect Texas Chainsaw Massacre at 6:30pm, Ringu at 7pm, The Exorcist at 8:30pm, and Fright Night at 9:15pm. Not to mention plenty more in the nights leading up to Halloween itself.
This iconic theater is highly sustainable and forward-thinking, not least for paying their amazing staff a living wage and following a profit-sharing business model. They also use completely reusable materials (popcorn is served in bowls, not bags), and are active in local nonprofit communities.
Be sure to enjoy some not-so-typical movie theater food during your visit for an extra luxurious movie experience! Menu items usually feature locally-sourced comfort food that’s free of high-fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated oils and palm oil products. Think smoky pizzas, hot sandwiches, honey-glazed drumsticks, and more. They also have plenty of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options. The theater has 12 rotating taps featuring local beers, wines, and ciders.
This exciting Oakland spot often hosts trivia nights, Bingo, crafting, karaoke, and events benefiting local nonprofits. Be sure to keep an eye on their calendar for your next outing, whether it includes a horror movie or not.
