Pickleball has some competition in San Francisco. Padel—the world’s fastest-growing sport— has been gaining rapid popularity in recent years, especially across Europe, and has now made its way to the Bay Area. This past weekend, a new luxury Padel court location opened in Oyster Point as part of Park Padel’s expansion.
The Oyster Point location recently opened after securing a 5 million seed round. The facility features six beautiful indoor courts and high ceilings ideal for the game. Monthly memberships start at $125, and you can attend classes, clinics, and socials at the clubs. Courts are also available by the hour for novices who want to try their hand at the game. In true SF style, you can also join their “founding membership” for $300 a month, which offers unlimited court time for avid players.
“We are very lucky to have a highly engaged and supportive group of investors who are dedicated to bringing energetic and social spaces to California. Padel is growing like wildfire – everyone who steps on the court falls in love. We saw amazing success with just two courts in Embarcadero to start – this investment round will allow us to give thousands more interested in playing padel the opportunity to get out on a court in their area,” said Jessica Talbert, Park Padel’s CEO and Co-Founder in a recent statement.
The game has gained popularity for its accessibility and social aspects. The racket sport is played on turf with doubles teams and glass walls. It combines pickleball, squash, and tennis elements, making it increasingly popular.
Park Padel has also added a new court to its Embarcadero Plaza location that opened last year in partnership with SF Recreation and Parks. The outdoor courts have been a major success, and the new indoor location at Oyster Point is just in time for winter. Park Padel isn’t the only location for the sport; you can also find courts via Bay Area Padel in SF and Treasure Island.
