Big Sur is known for its sweeping, dramatic ocean views and beautiful hiking trails. While you can get amazing views all along the coast, one luxury hotel is known for its perch on the cliffs, which features amazing views of the ocean.
Post Ranch Inn is known for being exceptionally luxurious, earning 3 Michelin Keys (the hotel equivalent of a Michelin Star). The Michelin Guide even hailed the location as one of “…most extraordinary locations on the face of the earth, a place of such breathtaking beauty it’s hard to believe it’s even accessible by mere automobile-driving mortals.”
Architect Mickey Muenni designed the hotel with relaxation in mind. Balconies with sweeping views and wood-paneled accommodations that evoke the feel of a treehouse are just a few of the features that stand out. While staying at the hotel is quite a splurge, you can also enjoy the views from the Sierra Mar restaurant. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but we recommend going for dinner for sunset views. The restaurant is still a luxury experience, with a sample tasting menu priced at $185. You can expect menu items like local seafood, lamb, and a lobster mushroom skewer. For breakfast, you can expect classic dishes like egg Benedict, French toast, and healthy wellness smoothies.
Post Ranch Inn is located right off Highway 1 at 47900 CA-1, Big Sur. The hotel is approximately a three-hour drive from San Francisco. While in Big Sur, we recommend stopping by a hidden meadow that blooms with calla lilies. Plus, you can drive to a historic restaurant perched on a cliff for a casual burger and great views.
