In 2022, the iconic Presidio opened a new park featuring gorgeous views of the Golden Gate Bridge. Since then, the highly anticipated park has been a big hit, regularly drawing crowds (3 million people since opening, to be exact).
Now, the park is adding another improvement: a food hall. The Presidio Trust announced a long-term lease agreement with the new food destination, The Mess Hall, in July 2024. The space is set to be an all-day cafe, bar, food hall, and even retail space for food. It will include a cocktail bar serving craft creations, wine, and beer curated by Zach Negin. Decorated chef Peter Serpico is leading the culinary side of the new venture.
“Being a part of this lauded San Francisco destination is a dream come true,” Rob Gaon, Bay Area resident and a principal of The Mess Hall Group, shared in a press release. “We’re excited to have such a creative team developing The Mess Hall, and we’re looking forward to enhancing the park experience for locals and tourists alike.”
The Mess Hall aims for a 2025 opening date and intends to serve a variety of food, including fast casual and grab-and-go options. This new addition isn’t the only food option in the Presidio, with various restaurants, including meze paradise Dalida that opened in 2023.
The Mess Hall is just another installment in the ever-growing destination. The area was initially a military post, but now, the park features beautiful green spaces, hiking, restaurants, yoga, and more. The Tunnel Tops was created after an above-ground highway was moved underground, and James Corner Field Operations was hired to create the space. The company is best known for their work on the now-iconic NYC High Line.
The new food hall has not announced an opening date and will be located at 201 Halleck.
