San Francisco is preparing for large-scale demonstrations this Saturday, June 14, as part of the national “No Kings Day” protests, expected to draw thousands across the Bay Area. In anticipation of this weekend, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) has announced transit reroutes and service adjustments.
The coordinated protests across the Bay Area this weekend are part of a national response against recent immigration enforcement activity in California. Protest organizers say they’re calling for protection of civil liberties.
Demonstrations in San Francisco began Monday in the Mission District, where more than 150 arrests were reported. Protests have continued throughout the city, with most protests, mostly peaceful, have taken place in the Mission District SF and Downtown SF.
Where are protests happening in SF?
According to SFMTA, a rally and march will begin at 24th and Mission at 10 am, before marching to Dolores Park to join the second group for a joint march to Civic Center Plaza on Saturday, June 14.
Additional planned protest locations in the Bay Area include:
- 24th and Mission to Dolores Park
- Dolores Park to Civic Center Plaza (San Francisco)
- Ocean Beach (San Francisco)
- Corner of Serramonte & Junipero Serra Blvd (Colma)
- Wilma Chan Park (Oakland)
- Alameda City Hall (Alameda)
A full list of events across the Bay Area can be found at mobilize.us.
Organizers stressed the importance of nonviolent action, stating, “We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.”
What can San Franciscans expect with upcoming protests?
With large-scale events planned at Dolores Park, Civic Center, and Ocean Beach, expect possible road closures, crowds, and traffic delays in the Mission District, Civic Center, and Outer Sunset neighborhoods.
Residents and visitors should plan ahead, especially in these areas where roads may be congested and local businesses may adjust hours. We recommend checking the business’s socials and website for updates (and consider supporting them when you can)!
