Strong points include high vaccination rates and quality cannabis.
Time Out Magazine has released its annual list of the “37 Best Cities In The World,” and San Francisco has officially claimed the #1 spot! They name the city’s high vaccination rates, quality cannabis, great hiking, and inclusivity as reasons for the decision.
Time Out compiled a list of 37 excellent cities in the world based on the Time Out Index, in which 27,000 city dwellers from across the world reported about how life was in their city during 2021. Out of all the cities reported around the world, San Francisco received the highest rating from people living there.
We’re excited to have published the results of the fourth annual Time Out Index today, with San Francisco crowned the number one city in the world right now! Check out the full list below, where did your city rank? https://t.co/KCORx3C6WC

San Francisco was crowned #1 due to the way it’s handled the Covid-19 pandemic. Residents pedestrianized streets, city leaders imposed strict restrictions to keep numbers down, and 80% of eligible residents are now fully vaccinated. The SF New Deal kept restaurant employees working by having them make meals for those in need.
They also mentioned things such as the 1,700 parklets that now line city streets, high quality cannabis and knowledgeable dispensaries, inclusivity and social justice especially in the wake of George Floyd’s murder, a dedication to sustainability and green spaces, and the thriving public art scene.
After San Francisco at #1, the next highest-ranking cities are Amsterdam, Manchester, Copenhagen, and New York, in that order. Other US cities that made the cut are Los Angeles at #11, Chicago at #12, Boston at #22, and Miami at #25. You cna see the full list here.
Do you agree with Time Out’s assessment of San Francisco? What other city would you add to the list?
