Good news for Museums for All members!
As of June 17th, the San Francisco Zoo and Gardens has officially joined the city’s Museums for All program, making reduced-price $3 admission available to San Francisco residents who hold a Medi-Cal or CalFresh card.
The program has been operating since 2019, and with the SF Zoo as its newest member, it now comprises a total of 27 cultural institutions.
Last year, more than 200,000 people used the program to visit participating museums.
How to qualify and access Museums for All
Nearly one in four San Franciscans currently receives Medi-Cal or CalFresh benefits and is eligible for the program.
To use the benefit, eligible residents must bring two items to any participating venue: an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) or Medi-Cal card, and proof of San Francisco residency — such as a driver’s license, student or college ID, or library card. Each visit allows up to four free or significantly reduced-price tickets per household.
That can save huge sums of money, as standard admission for a family of four at participating institutions can normally range from $20 to $150. At the SF Zoo, admission normally costs between $22-24 for children and $32-34 for adults.
27 institutions and counting
The San Francisco Zoo is now one of 27 participating Museums for All venues, ranging from the de Young Museum and SFMOMA to the Exploratorium, the Japanese Tea Garden, the Conservatory of Flowers, and the San Francisco Botanical Garden.
Three of those institutions — the Aquarium of the Bay, the Exploratorium, and now the San Francisco Zoo and Gardens — offer reduced-price admission rather than fully free entry under the program’s structure.
