Visa-free travel to Japan has finally returned after two years and flights from San Jose to Tokyo are currently available for as little as $475 roundtrip. SF Gate first reported this astonishing deal, pointing out that these rates are half the cost of typical flights to Tokyo.
This comes on the heels of a recent announcement that Japan will allow visa-free travel starting October 11th. Up until this announcement the country has limited tourism and maintained fairly strict rules for travelers since March 2020. The dissolution of these travel restrictions is a boon for Japan’s tourism industry from both international and domestic travelers.
As SF Gate pointed out, Kayak’s Explore Page is the best way to find and snag one of these deals. The $475 round trip flight is one of several offered in late-January 2023 with a company called Zipair, a low-cost carrier with flights between San Jose and Tokyo’s Narita airport.
One thing to note is that the distance between Shibuya Crossing in Tokyo and Narita airport is roughly 1.5 hours by car. By comparison, Tokyo’s Haneda airport is a brisk 30 minutes. The travel time might be longer, but the low ticket cost makes them a tempting option if you don’t mind the commute.
