Cheers to one of the best bars on the continent! San Francisco’s own ABV, a popular bar in the Mission with great drinks and late-night eats, just ranked #39 in the top 50 bars across North America.
The first-ever 50 Best Bar Awards happened on June 7 in New York City, and fantastic bars across North America from Honolulu to Mexico City to Montreal received high honors.
ABV is the only bar from San Francisco and only one of 3 total California bars to make the list – the other two are Thunderbolt (#9) and Death & Co. (#34), both in Los Angeles. ABV’s “casual outlook on delicious cocktails” and “menu organized not only by spirit but also by highballs and low ABV cocktails as well as fortified wines” were mentioned for making ABV stand out beyond countless others. ABV is headed by Ryan Fitzgerald, Erik Reichborn-Kjennerud and Todd Smith.
ABV is a delightful cocktail bar with dozens of liquor options to choose from. Craft cocktails center around highballs, whiskey, agave, rum/brandy, and gin/vodka. Even better, their kitchen is open until midnight so you can stay up enjoying their creative bar fare late into the evening.
Current favorites include gulf shrimp tacos, a flavorful fried chicken sandwich, and fried cauliflower with alioli. Top it off with a mini Basque cheesecake and pineapple sherry compote for dessert.
You can find ABV at 3174 16th St in San Francisco’s Mission District.
The list of 50 bars features 29 from the United States, 11 in Mexico, 8 in Canada, and 2 from the Caribbean. New York City’s Attaboy ranked at #1, and Mexico City’s Handshake Speakeasy and Licorería Limantour ranked at #2 and #3, respectively.
These 50 bars were voted for by an Academy of 220 anonymous North American bar industry experts, from bartenders and owners to cocktail connoisseurs. The 50 Best Organization does not vote or control the list’s composition, meaning bars cannot apply to be on the list and sponsors cannot influence it.
Be sure to pay ABV a visit and see for yourself why they made this esteemed list!
