San Francisco Art Week started as an unofficial celebration of artists in the city, but it eventually turned into an official event, now in its third year. SF Art Week is held the third week of January, from January 17 through January 25, and you can expect numerous events, including poetry readings, fairs, and dozens of participating organizations.
Some highlights for the week include the FOG Design + Art Fair, from January 21 through 25 at Fort Mason Center. The fair consists of over 60 galleries from around the world, including Tokyo, New York, and Mexico City. You can also attend educational talks on art and design from industry experts, or go to the opening gala on January 21.

Other event highlights include Art. Fair.Mont, a new art fair at the historic Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco. The new art fair will run from January 18 through 20, and feature major contemporary art galleries from around the world, including two SF-based galleries. On Wednesday, January 21, the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts will have a Poetry reading, and on January 23, it will host a free art workshop.

SFMOMA is also partnering with local arts nonprofit SCRAP to host a free watercolor workshop on Sunday, January 25, inspired by the work of Suzanne Jackson. Plus, the de Young is hosting a festive party on January 22, featuring music, cocktails, and the opportunity to explore the museum after-hours. Plus, SF’s free contemporary art museum, the ICA, is debuting two new installations, one at the Transamerica Pyramid and another in San Jose.
Art Week also spans to other parts of the Bay Area, including locations in the South Bay and the East Bay. Many local galleries will also showcase exhibition openings during the week. Every day has numerous events planned across the city, so it will be easy to find something that piques your interest. You can find the full schedule here.
