SF Music Day has returned for 2022, courtesy of InterMusicSF! You don’t want to miss this free music festival, featuring 27 different acts across 4 different stages. The event will happen on Sunday, March 20 from 12pm-7pm at the War Memorial Veterans Building at 401 Van Ness Ave in San Francisco.
This free annual music festival began fourteen years ago, and continues to showcase a wide variety of genres from local Bay Area musicians. Performers are sorted into 4 categories:
- Classical & Baroque Music, with performers including Classical Revolution, Ensemble San Francisco, Aveta Trio, and Quinteto Latino
- Jazz & Improvised Music, with performers including Tiffany Austin, Mystery School, Jean Fineberg & JAZZphoria, and Marcus Shelby
- New Music, with performers including The Mycos Project, Del Sol Quartet, Brass Over Bridges, Earplay, and Splinter Reeds
- Global Music, with performers including John Calloway and the Flute Odyssey, The Alaya Project, and Anna Maria Mendieta’s Tango del Cielo
All 27 acts will perform on 4 separate stages in the spectacular War Memorial Veterans Building, a Beaux-Arts building which typically showcases the San Francisco Ballet and Opera. Its most extravagant stage is Herbst Theater, a historic space decorated with ornate golden siding and enormous frescoes that once housed the UN Charter signing of 1945. The other 3 performance spaces are in The Green Room, with glittering chandeliers and floor-to-ceiling windows; the Education Studio, a spacious studio space with a large vaulted skylight; and the Taube Atrium Theater, a modest theater space with tiered seating.
SF Music Day is an amazing time to explore Bay Area musical talent, all while taking in one of San Francisco’s most elegant historical buildings. Be sure to check it out on Sunday, March 20 from 12pm-7pm at the War Memorial Veterans Building, which you’ll find at 401 Van Ness Ave in San Francisco. Plan ahead for the day with InterMusicSF.
