The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art has an expansive art collection, but it is also known for its many temporary exhibitions, which draw some of the world’s most well-known artworks. Today, SFMOMA announced that its latest temporary exhibition will focus on the human form through the lens of fashion design and sculpture.
Dior to McQueen: Fashioning Form

The new exhibition will focus on some of the most influential fashion designers of the last 80 years and how their work intersects with post-war sculpture. A comprehensive 45 designers are featured, including work from Christian Dior, Cristóbal Balenciaga, Issey Miyake, and Daniel Roseberry. The exhibition will feature sculptures from 15 artists, highlighting similarities between the sculptures and designs. Many prominent sculptors are featured, including Fletcher Benton, Louise Bourgeois, and John Chamberlain.
“Today’s most progressive designers are challenging the norms of wearability and recasting the silhouette as anything but traditional. Trailblazing fashion designs that have emerged since the postwar era blur the boundaries between art, performance and self-expression,” says Ann Marguerite Tartsinis, curator of Dior to McQueen and head of costume and textiles at Philadelphia Museum of Art.
The exhibition follows how designers and artists approached the human form after World War II, leading to bold design choices and new construction methods. Dior to McQueen: Fashioning Form is SFMOMA’s first major fashion exhibition in 40 years, and it is set to open on May 15, 2027. The exhibition will run through September 7, 2027.
SFMOMA is preparing to open the highly anticipated exhibition with K-pop star RM. The exhibition will feature works from RM’s personal art collection and is set to open on October 3, 2026.
