SFMOMA’s popular event series, called Rooftop Radio, is returning for another delightful summer party this July. The event will take over the SFMOMA’s rooftop on Thursday, July 16, from 6 to 9 pm, with doors opening at 5:30 pm.
The night will start with a DJ set by mare.e.fresh, followed by a performance from Y La Bamba. Guests can also get watercolor caricature portraits painted by Bay Area artist Vanessa Shive during the event. Food and drinks will be available for purchase during the party. A folklórico dance performance and workshop will also take place on the 4th floor of the museum.
Along with rooftop access, partygoers can also explore the museum, which is currently showcasing two notable photography exhibitions: Feel the Beat: Dance in Photographs and Graciela Iturbide: Between Two Worlds. The party is a great way to see the museum after hours, while enjoying music and drinks.
You can also upgrade your ticket to include access to the new Matisse exhibition, Matisse’s Femme au chapeau: A Modern Scandal. The expansive exhibit features one of Matisse’s most controversial paintings, a portrait of his wife that shocked art critics when it first debuted. The exhibit recreates the original Parisian salon with works from other painters like André Derain, Albert Marque, and more.
Tickets for SFMOMA’s July 16 Rooftop Radio celebration are on sale now, and we recommend getting yours soon, as past events have sold out. General admission tickets are $35, and tickets with admission to the Matisse exhibition are $50. The event is in partnership with Noise Pop, a local music promotion company.
