The 7th annual SiliCon with Adam Savage is coming up on August 27 and 28 at San Jose McEnery Convention Center. It’s your chance to explore the best in pop culture, technology, science, makers, cosplay, gaming, and more in Silicon Valley’s version of Comic Con. You can meet featured guests including Karen Gillan, George Takei, Christopher Lloyd, and Simone Giertz. This year’s theme is “Creating the Improbable.”
The two-day family-friendly event is a hybrid “Comic Con + Maker Con” with everything from maker challenges, to cosplay crafting, to celebrity meet-and-greets.
Some exciting Hollywood celebrities making an appearance include Karen Gillan (Doctor Who, Guardians of the Galaxy, Jumanji), George Takei (Star Trek), and Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future).
Adam Savage, best known as co-host of Mythbusters, will bring together some of the best makers around for demonstrations, competitions, and panels as part of the Savage MakerVerse.
This will include a dozen tables with free access to supplies, tools, and materials for attendees to create whatever they like; a Maker Stage for demos and discussions; speed build challenges; a cosplay design contest; hands-on maker workshops; and much more.
Learn from famous makers including Frank Pillar, known for the iconic Iron Man suits; Darrell Maloney, a Marvel Prop Maker; Simone Giertz, an inventor and YouTuber; and Sophy Wong of Wearable Tech Products.
“We believe in every single person’s ability to create the improbable and to learn about themselves and the world in the process. Like any artifact worth searching for, sometimes all it takes is a bit of digging in the right place to find your unique ability. We seek to aid in this endeavor,” said Adam Savage. “At SiliCon with Adam Savage, our goal is to bring together people who have long histories of creating, from filmmakers and actors, to artists, authors, engineers, scientists, technologists, and makers to share their creativity and enthusiasm. We know that the sum of all this interaction is greater than its individual parts. We celebrate the spark we get when we meet new people, surmount new challenges, exult and share with each other.”
SiliCon with Adam Savage will take place from 10am-7pm on Saturday, August 27; and 10am-5pm on Sunday, August 28. Single-day adult passes cost $40-50 and 2-day adult passes are $80. But take a look through their family bundles for a chance to save a few bucks, and have a great time!
