The historic train is popular all year, with scenic journeys through the woods regularly drawing crowds. Now, the Skunk Train has fully embraced the holiday season with festive decor and seasonal treats. The ride takes guests to see a massive redwood decked out in holiday lights, surrounded by other towering trees. You can expect music, holiday games, and complimentary hot chocolate to complete the cozy journey.
The holiday journey is multiple times a week through the end of December, aside from December 24 and 25. Tickets start at $68.5; children ride for free on December 17, 18 and 19. The journeys are known to sell out, so we recommend getting tickets early.
About the Skunk Train
The historic railroad dates back to 1885, when it was built to facilitate the lumber industry in the area. The train was known for carrying the families that were settling in logging camps in the area. The now famous “skunk train” refers to the single motor train that came on the scene in 1925. The gasoline powering the trains produced a strong smell, leading to them being called skunks.
Today, the Skunk Train offers scenic tours of the area during all seasons. You can check out a hidden bar nestled in the woods for a peaceful drink. If you’re feeling active, the railroad also offers railway bikes for you to explore the route at your own pace.
The Skunk Train’s holiday rides are only available for a limited time, so we recommend booking your tickets as soon as you can.
