Founder and star of the show Sachet eagerly looks forward to the return, stating, “We have always thought of this show as breaking new barriers, presenting drag to some less familiar with it or even afraid of it. From the beginning, we have been committed to presenting a professional show that would appeal to diverse audiences both straight and gay, at all ages, and visitors and locals alike.”
A historic venue for an iconic performance
Donna Sachet has a long career as a drag actor, singer, writer, and activist within the San Francisco Community. Some of Sachet’s many accomplishments include being named Miss Gay SF in 1993 and serving as the Grand Marshall of the Pride Parade. Sanchez has been a very active community member for years, including serving on the board of the LGBTQ Center and the AIDS Emergency Fund.
Such an iconic performer needs an equally legendary venue. Club Fugazi the perfect place for the limited edition show. Club Fugazi has been a cultural center for performance art for over 100 years.
The venue has seen performances from famous beat poets such as Jack Kerouac and hosted the Grateful Dead’s first release party in 1967. It even claims the title of the world’s longest-running music revue with Blanket Babylon. The venue sits in the heart of the North Beach neighborhood, which has historically embraced drag culture for many years.
As San Francisco mourns many closures in recent months, the return of such a beloved show comes as a breath of fresh air. “The timing for the return of Sunday’s a Drag is perfect. In the face of so much national conflict over the purpose and appeal of drag, San Francisco stands as a beacon, encouraging genuine talent, elaborate productions, and crowd-pleasing drag. We are thrilled to bring such talented performers to a respected, beautiful setting with a fantastic history, such as Club Fugazi.” States Sachet.
Club Fugazi is located at 678 Green St, and the shows begin on August 6th, 2023.
