Sundown Cinema is returning a little early this year with a collaboration with the SFFILM Festival this weekend. SFFILM will present a screening of the 1980 horror classic The Fog in partnership with Sundown Cinema, a program that brings free movie screenings to SF’s Parks.
The exciting screening is scheduled for Friday, April 25, from 6 to 10 pm at the Presidio on the Civil War Parade Ground. The screening is free and open to the public, but you can secure a reserved spot in advance if you’re a member of the SF Parks Alliance. You can purchase a membership and reserved seating for $35 to support SF Parks Alliance. Otherwise, just bring a picnic blanket and find the perfect place to settle in on the lawn for free. Sundown Cinema events are typically family-friendly, but The Fog is rated R, so be sure to take that into account for this particular screening. We recommend bringing some layers and a blanket to the screening, as SF is often cold at night.
The film is part of a six-movie retrospective on horror films presented by SFFILM throughout the festival. Other films in the series include classics like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974) and Babadook (2014). The 2025 SFFILM Festival starts on April 17 and runs through the 27th, showing 150 films from over 50 countries. The annual festival is in its 68th year, making it the longest-running film festival in the Americas. You can attend talks, tributes, and more, as well as the many screenings during the festival. You can get tickets for SFFILM Festival here.
This weekend’s screening is the first of the year, with a screening of Sister Act scheduled for May 16 in Dolores Park. In past years, the screenings have become wildly popular, with large crowds gathering to watch iconic movies in SF’s beautiful parks. You can find more details about the event on their website.
