2025’s first supermoon will be the biggest and brightest of the year, and it’s set to reach its peak over California at 8:47pm tonight, Monday, October 6th.
Don’t forget to gaze skyward for a chance to see the brilliant Harvest Moon glowing over the Bay Area tonight.

The 2025 Super Harvest Moon
The Old Farmer’s Almanac tells us that October’s full Harvest Moon will be the first of three supermoons rising in 2025, rising low over the horizon to create a brilliantly dramatic effect.
The Harvest Moon is the full moon rising closest to the autumn equinox, which this year fell on September 22nd. Historically, this autumn full moon rises around the same time for several nights, giving farmers extra light to complete their harvests.
2025’s Harvest Moon is also a supermoon because it coincides with the moon’s closest point to Earth, or perigee. This will make the moon appear 30% larger and 14% brighter than a typical full moon, according to NASA.
The next two full moons of 2025 will also be supermoons: save the dates for the Beaver Moon on November 5th and the Cold Moon on December 4th.
Where to see the supermoon in San Francisco
San Francisco is forecasted to have clear skies throughout the day and evening, so you’re likely to catch a good view of the supermoon anywhere that you can see the night sky. Remember, the Harvest Moon will reach peak illumination at 8:47pm PST on Monday, Oct. 6, 2025, although it will look full to the human eye for several days.
But if you want to watch the moon rise over a beautiful view, consider heading out to Twin Peaks, Corona Heights Park, Alamo Square, Ina Coolbrith Park, or Alta Plaza.
