Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour will soon touch down at Levi’s Stadium on July 28-29, 2023, and Bay Area cities are going all out to honor her visit. The SF Board of Supervisors just declared Taylor’s Bay Area tour dates as “Taylor Swift Weekend” in San Francisco and Santa Clara is taking it even further.
Santa Clara Mayor Lisa M. Gillmor said in a video announcement that the city will be renamed “Swiftie Clara” and the singer will be proclaimed Honorary Mayor on Friday, July 28 and Saturday, July 29.
And yes, of course both Gillmor’s Santa Clara announcement and Dorsey’s San Francisco proposal included the requisite Taylor Swift song references.
“So join us in Swiftie Clara as we dance like we’re ’22,’ like we’re made of ‘Starlight,’ and scream to be heard in unison, said Gillmor. “These days will be ‘Golden’ as we write a chapter in our city’s history. Let’s create a ‘Love Story’ that echos through the ages. Swiftie Clara, you’re our ‘Evermore.'”
Dorsey credited the references in his speech to “four passionate Swifties” in his office, saying, “With only one more board meeting left, I must ‘Speak Now’ on this resolution declaring July 28 and 29th Taylor Swift weekend in the City and County of San Francisco. As you may know ‘All Too Well,’ Taylor Swift is a music industry icon and an advocate for change.”
SF and Santa Clara are certainly not the first cities honoring Taylor during the Eras Tour stops. Billboard reported that Glendale, AZ was renamed to “Swift City;” Las Vegas, NV lit up its Gateway Arches; Arlington, TX renamed a street to “Taylor Swift Way;” Houston, TX renamed its venue “NRG Stadium (Taylor’s Version);” Nashville, TN dedicated a bench to Taylor in Centennial Park; and Minneapolis, MN was renamed “Swiftie-apolis.”
Santa Clara is gearing up for huge crowds on the weekend of July 28-29, for which they’ll be running an extra light rail train service. Learn more here.
