San Francisco’s connection to jazz goes far beyond the San Francisco Jazz Festival and SFJAZZ. From the popular ragtime spot Barbary Coast to the buzzing Fillmore District during the ’40s and ’50s, hosting icons like John Coltrane and Miles Davis, the city has a long history of jazz drawing musicians from New Orleans and beyond. This season, The Jazz Room in San Francisco is adding a new performance to the city’s jazz legacy, taking you on a musical journey to the hometown of the genre.
What is The Jazz Room?
Slide into the shadows of The Jazz Room—a pop-up time machine dressed as a vintage bar, pulsing with the electricity of a live jazz band. This is no cookie-cutter performance: the program spins through three distinct concerts, each steeped in a different flavor, where improvisation isn’t just encouraged, it’s the main act. You’ll hear legends honored and rooms erupting with solos that didn’t exist a minute ago. Relax, sip your drink, and let New Orleans’ legacy unfold, one note at a time.
