San Francisco’s Union Square is hosting its second annual Union Square In Bloom, a new May tradition where San Franciscans can celebrate the spring and summer at local businesses. This year they’ve set up stunning oversize floral displays around the plaza, and visitors can explore the square with a curated passport.
Don’t miss out on the joyous Mother’s Day celebration on May 14 from 1-4pm, in which local families will come together to celebrate mothers and mother figures with live salsa music, dancing, and delicious food and drink.
Union Square is known to have a special affinity for flowers, with several beloved flower kiosks set up in in the district and the highly-anticipated free pick-your-own tulip garden happening every year in March.
These days, you may have noticed the gorgeous flower displays decorating local hotels and businesses including the Westin St. Francis, the Axiom Hotel, the Donatello, the Grand Hyatt, and The Inn at Union Square. These gorgeous displays will be accompanied by a vibrant spring and summer celebration with flower-inspired cocktails, live music, and fun events lasting through September.
To explore Union Square In Bloom, you can follow two different passport books. They’re both available to download on the Union Square In Bloom website, but here’s a breakdown:
- Bloom + Bubbles Passport (21+): A program of floral-inspired cocktails offered at participating hotels and bars in the area. Choices include a “Flower Flight” at Macy’s Wine Bar, a “Golden Poppy” cocktail and burrata plate at the Beacon Grand, and a “California Suncup” at the Westin St. Francis.
- Bloom Passport (Families/kids): An activity guide taking you through local storefronts’ floral displays with floral education opportunities, interactive games, and more.
Union Square In Bloom programming kicks off in May 2023 and lasts throughout the summer into September. Stay tuned as we await news of more events happening at the Square in the coming months.
