On Saturday, October 31, the Golden State Valkyries won their first WNBA Championship in only their second year in the league. The team defeated the Atlanta Dream in Game 7 to secure the league championship, with a final score of 68-63. Now, San Francisco is preparing to celebrate the team’s milestone victory with a massive parade this week.
Valkyries Parade in San Francisco
On Wednesday, November 4, the Embarcadero will host a massive celebratory parade to honor the Valkyries’ Championship win. The parade will take place from 12 to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, featuring Valkyries players, coaches, and staff. The route will start at the Ferry Building and make its way along the Embarcadero to Second Street and King Street. Fans will be able to line up along the parade route starting at 9 a.m. that morning.
“Before we even had a name or any players on our roster, Bay Area fans supported this team with a joy and passion that’s unmatched in all professional sports,” said Jess Smith, Golden State Valkyries President, in a recent statement. “They wore the colors, they led the chants, and they showed up anywhere and everywhere to cheer on the Valkyries. This parade is our chance to show up for them and celebrate the impact they’ve made on this historic championship run. There’s no doubt we couldn’t have done this without our community, and we can’t wait to see the Embarcadero lined with violet as they celebrate with our players and coaches and spread the joy they’ve brought all season across the entire city.”
The parade is expected to draw large crowds, and officials encourage fans to take public transit to the parade. Muni Service on the F and N lines along the Embarcadero will be paused from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Muni streetcars will have an alternate service route provided by the 15 Bayview Hunters Point Express bus. The parade will also cause multiple street closures in the area, and you can find more transit information on the SFMTA website.
