On June 24th, two back-to-back earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5, shattered communities throughout northern Venezuela. The death toll rose to 3,535 on Monday, with another 16,740 people injured and tens of thousands still missing.
Although two weeks have passed, local and international nonprofits are still on the ground delivering critical medical care, food, water, shelter, and protection. The UN estimated physical infrastructure damage alone to total $37 billion.
Venezuela urgently needs continued support. Below, find a list of local efforts and major organizations that are still actively accepting donations.
Helping from the Bay Area
Venezuelan-owned Arepas Latin Cuisine (San Francisco/San Jose) and Angelitos Insurance (Oakland) collected more than 1,500 boxes of relief supplies for Venezuela.
Now, Dulce Tricolor Venezolano is raising money to cover shipping and logistics to send those supplies to Venezuela.
Emergency relief & logistics
- International Rescue Committee (IRC) – IRC teams are scaling up their response to deliver health, nutrition, water, sanitation, and hygiene services and supplies.
- Direct Relief – Direct Relief is coordinating with regional agencies to supply emergency medical resources, including medicines and health supplies, to support Venezuela’s medical stations and logistics.
- World Central Kitchen (WCK) – World Central Kitchen is deploying teams to serve 30,000 hot meals a day in La Guaira, and partners with dozens of local restaurants and food trucks to serve meals and distribute water and ice.
- UN Crisis Relief – Venezuela Humanitarian Fund – The Venezuela Humanitarian Fund is channeling emergency grants to trusted local NGOs and frontline responders so they can deliver medical care, shelter, water, and other life‑saving assistance.
Health and medical responders
- Doctors Without Borders – In addition to its initial trauma kit and medical supply response, Doctors Without Borders is now expanding emergency medical assistance in Venezuela, adding mobile clinics, mental health support, water and sanitation, and more.
- Project HOPE – Project HOPE is an international organization operating mobile medical units, providing trauma care and psychological first aid, and distributing hygiene kits, water purification tablets, medicines, and other medical supplies.
- Team Rubicon – Team Rubicon is mobilizing its veteran‑led disaster response teams to provide critical medical care using mobile care units and essential supplies.
Child‑focused agencies
- Save the Children – Save the Children is working with local partners in Venezuela to provide warm blankets, books, meals, shelter materials, and education resources for children and families.
- UNICEF USA – UNICEF USA is supporting UNICEF’s on‑the‑ground response, which has already delivered several dozen tons of emergency health kits, water and sanitation supplies, tents, and education materials.
- World Vision – World Vision partners with the U.S. State Department and local organizations to provide emergency assistance for children and families. According to their website, an anonymous donor wilil match every donation dollar-for-dollar up to $1 million.
Animal-focused agencies
- IFAW (International Fund for Animal Welfare) – IFAW has issued an emergency grant to partner Red de Apoyo Canino to fund medical supplies, animal food, clean water, and veterinary care for injured and displaced animals.
- Humane World for Animals – Humane World for Animals has deployed a nine‑person disaster relief team from Mexico and Costa Rica to northern Venezuela, setting up mobile veterinary teams and supporting Red de Apoyo Canino’s work.
